Celebrated director Anubhav Sinha brings yet another promising after Mulk and Article 15 that reflects on the societal norms. Co-produced by Bhushan Kumar and Anubhav Sinha, Thappad has versatile Taapsee Pannu in the lead role. The women centric film has already garnered interest with its trailer release.
Other actors in the film are Pavail Gulati as Taapsee’s husband, Ratna Pathak Shah, Tanvi Azmi, Diya Mirza, Ram Kapoor. The film is shot in Uttar Pradesh.
The story is about a happily married couple. Things change dramatically when the husband slaps his wife in public. The film is very well articulated and throws light on the mindset of our so called modern society even as are in the second decade of the 21st century.
Until now there has been several films that showed domestic violence, some even as accepted society practice (read Kabir Singh), while this one is the perhaps the first of its kind that has this evil practice as the core theme of the movie.
The music is composed by Anurag Saikia, Shakeel Azmi is the lyricist. The film is set to hit the screens on February 28, 2020.
