Mumbai: Television and Bollywood actor Navin Nischol passed away here on Saturday after a massive heart attack. He was 65.
Navin Nischol and his close friend actor-filmmaker Randhir Kapoor were on their way to Pune when the tragedy struck at approximately 10.30 am. He was immediately rushed to a nearby Sion hospital where he was declared dead,” sources said.
The last rites of Navin were performed at the Santacruz crematorium on Saturday evening in the presence of family members and friends from the film industry. The actor’s daughter Natasha, mother Kamla, and brother Praveen were present. Most of his friends, including Govind Nihalani, Manmohan Shetty, Ashoke Pandit, Prakash Jha, Rishi Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor, came to pay their last respects.
Navin was first married to Dev Anand’s niece and Shekhar Kapur’s sister, Neelu Kapur which ended when she found out about his affair with a starlet Padmini Kapila. Shortly after that Padmini started having an affair with director Prakash Mehra, and broke up with Navin. He then had an affair with Pimma, a Delhi-based married woman with two children. Later, Navin married second time with divorcee Geetanjali. His marriage, to Geetanjali, also ran into trouble when she alleged harassment by the family. On 24 April 2006, Geetanjali hanged herself at her residence. She blamed both Navin and his brother, Pravin, for her suicide. They have a daughter, Natasha, who is a popular makeup artiste in the film industry.
He studied in Rashtriya Military School Bangalore erstwhile King George Royal India Military College, Bangalore. A gold medallist from FTII, Navin became a popular actor with hits like “Buddha Mila Gaya”, “Dhund”, “Victoria No. 203″, “Hanste Zakhm” and “Woh Main Nahin”. More than his acting, Navin became popular for his chocolate-boy looks and for songs, which included popular hits like “Kaan mein jhumka” (“Sawan Bhadon”), “Raat kali jab khwab mein aayi” (“Buddha Mil Gaya”), “Simti si sharmaisi” (“Parwana”) and “Tum jo mil gaye ho” (“Hanste Zakhm”). He was also one of the first film actors along with Shekhar Suman to join television. He worked in quite a few television serials, including Anand Mahendroo’s “Dekh Bhai Dekh”.
Navin was last seen in the 2010 film, BREAK KE BAAD.
