Lockdown may have been boring for most, but neighbours of the veteran Navratri singer Falguni Pathak were in for a pleasant surprise( should we call it a melodious surprise?) when she came out to her balcony and started singing. Her soulful renditions included Kishore Kumar’s popular song ‘Kahi Door Jab Din Dhal Jaye’ from the 1971 movie, Anand.
A fan recorded her performing and the video has been viral in social media, amassing accolades from fans. While the fans went ga-ga over her voice, some even envied the neighbours, who got to enjoy Falguni Pathak live singing for ‘free’.
Falguni Pathak has been the unbeaten Queen of Navratri. When India was just gearing up to the pop songs, Falguni Pathak gave hits like ‘Chudi jo Khanki Haath me’ and ‘Tu ne Payal jo khankayi’. She has been most loved for her Navratri songs, and though the song ‘Pari hu mein’ is not originally sung by her, her version gained immense popularity.
Although Falguni does not create pop songs anymore, she is active in creating new versions of Gujarati folk songs, blending it with pop tunes. She is one of the most successful performers at Navratri festivals, who always get a full house. Ever since we are in facing the pandemic crisis, celebrities globally have tried to keep their fans entertained and keep their boredom away by performing from their balconies…Falguni Pathak followed suit, lucky neighbours, we must say!
