Hot Star and Akshay Kumar’ Cape of Good films had a whooping deal of 125 cr for Laxmmi as festival release, however how worth was it can be seen on Disney Hot star on which movie is streaming from 9th Nov 7 pm. The original name of Laxmmi was Laxmmi Bomb, however after objection by few organizations it was changed to Laxmmi. Laxmmi is the Official remake of Tamil Super hit movie of 2011 Kanchana (series of 3 movies) by the same director Raghava Lawrence. Few movies are made in certain time zone and they work well during that time, if you try to recreate it lot of other factors also need to be considered including the budget and production cost of such remakes.
The Plot
Asif (Akshay Kumar) is a Muslim guy who is married to Rashmi (Kiara Advani) against her parents (Rajesh Sharma & Ayesha Raza Mishra) wish.
He is associated with an NGO who try to remove superstition about paranormal from common people coincidentally only (Hindu fraud baba)
While doing this he says his favorite sexist dialogue (“Jis din sach mein bhoot dekhliya na, haathon mein chudiya pehanloonga”) like really you are in 2020.
Rashmi’s mother invites her and Akshay for their 25th Wedding anniversary celebration thinking that now her father and son-in-law can have patch up. During this visit Akshay Kumar goes to play cricket with kids to the nearby plot which is considered to be haunted. After series of events he gets possessed by the ghost in that plot Laxmmi (Sharad Kelkar) transgender and her family. Who is Laxmmi, why she was killed? what happen to Asif? forms the rest of the movie of 2 hr. 28 minutes
The Pluses
Really difficult to find in this movie. Still there are 10-15 min when Sharad Kelkar comes on screen which is good to see. During that time there is one speech by him which is also clap worthy.
Akshay Kumar act well and brings his top energy levels in the song Bam Bholle which is worth watch.
The Minuses
When you make a movie in Horror Comedy genre you expect mix of both. Unfortunately, this movie falls flat on both the genres. The editing, screenplay special effects all looks sub standards. Songs comes in movie from nowhere and doesn’t goes with the story. The background score is also weak. Hence as audience you cannot get engaged at any place and the feel of irritation comes while watching.
The character creation of Akshay as Asif itself don’t justify the movie, he is the one who is shown as teaching people about superstition and such evils. However, once he is possessed there is no mentioning about science and logic at any place. In same genre we have seen him doing wonders in Bhool Bhuliya and the expectations were somewhere similar.
FFC Take
Overall Laxmmi is a weak film which neither tickle your funny bones, nor give you horror goosebumps. Which was suppose to be a firework of Diwali, ends up as a phuski bomb. Can be avoided.
