Dark 7 White, an Alt Balaji production is now streaming on Zee 5. With Sumeet Vyas (from Permanent Roommates) in lead, this political thriller cum murder mystery is about a young politician who gets murdered, and all his friends and aides are under the lens once investigations start.
Plot
Dark 7 White starts with Yudhveer Singh (Yudi) ready to take the oath for youngest CM of the state. On his way to the oath taking ceremony, he gets murdered. The whole party goes into a frenzy and investigations are handed to ACP ABhimanyu Singh (Jatin Sarna).
Cut to flashback and the series moves to his college days, where Yudi, who is of royal descent, and living in his bubble gets a reality check when an inspector slaps him. He comes to understand that politics is where the power lies and decides to contest the college elections.
He, with his team, uses all the tricks in the book to ensure that he wins the elections, and from there he climbs the political ladder and finally gets elected as the CM of the state.
Once Yudi gets murdered, everyone from his close circle of friends and family are under the lens as suspects and as investigations proceed, a lot of dark secrets come out, with everyone who has a motive to kill him is under the scanner.
Who killed Yudi, did police get to the killer or he gets away, and what happens to the state politics thereafter is what the rest of the series deals with.
The Hits
The best part of Dark 7 White is its runtime and short episodes keep the proceedings tight. With 10 episodes of 20 min each, the show is a fast paced one, which is the key for such mystery dramas.
The narrative is good and it juggles well between the past and present. The whole show is narrated by Sumeet, as the dead Yudi, who wants to know who exactly killed him and that is well presented.
The highlight of the show is undoubtedly Sumeet Vyas as Yudi, who till now has been seen as a confused happy go lucky boy next door. Here he gets to play the mean, cold blooded negative character and he pulls it off splendidly.
The Misses
Dark 7 White has a lot of parts that work for it but quite a lot which don’t. The plot though engaging, is not at all novel and has a lot of done to death sequences.
The writing is a bit amateurish and weak. The series seems rushed in some of the episodes with no logical reasoning and conclusion.
A few characters are underdeveloped and would have made a sense to give them a lot more arc, be it of Yudi’s family, or be it of his friends. Most of the characters feel amateurish and irritating.
Performances
Performance wise Sumeet Vyas stands tall and delivers a splendid performance as Yudi. He has pulled off a negative role effectively and given the image and roles he has done in the past, this one speaks volumes of his talent.
He is too good as a careless blue blood college boy, and also menacing as a suave and cunning politician.
Jatin Sarna, as ACP Abhimanyu Singh has also given a very good performance as an honest cop. Nidhi Singh as Yudi’s fiance does not get much to do, but has been effective in limited scenes.
Monika Chaudhary as Neelu gets a lot of screen time and is excellent as Yudi’s aide. Rest all cast is average and hugely underperforms.
FFC Take
Dark 7 White is a murder mystery and treads an expected line, but the makers have put in enough twists and sequences to keep you hooked. There are very convenient liberties taken and that dilute series of its seriousness.
Though, given its short runtime, the episodes never drag and that keeps this drama afloat. And even when the story is not new, but for treatment and a very good performance by Sumeet Vyas, this show is surely a one time watch.
