Jeet ki Zid streaming on Zee 5 is yet another series on the Army, but is the story of the humane side of army officers. Based on real life of special forces officer Deep Singh Sengar, Jeet ki Zid is about his courage, determination, his never give up attitude and his struggles.
Plot
Jeet ki Zid, shows Deep (Amit Sadh) as a kid who idolizes his elder brother Rajat and wants to be like him. When Rajat gets killed in a terrorist attack during holidays in Kashmir, Deep decides to join the Army.
Grown up Deep joins the army and with his determination and will, gets selected for Special forces. He realizes that it’s not that easy, but he pushes his limits and completes the training.
He gets shot during a mission and during recovery meets Jaya (Amrita Puri), with whom he falls in love with and finally marries.
The show moves slowly and predictably till the 4th episode where Deep gets shot again during the Kargil war and is paralysed below the waist.
He gets depressed and starts getting bitter but Jaya motivates him to pursue MBA which he does and moves to the corporate.
Over the period of time, he realizes that he is looked upon with pity and sympathy, which again pushes him to depression. Rest of the episodes show how once again he overcomes the adversities, and rises as a winner.
Hits
The story of Major Deep Sengar is inspirational and makes for a good script which is the biggest plus of the show. The highlight of Jeet ki Zid is Amit Sadh. He looks every bit the army man and plays the depressed paralysed man with the same effectiveness.
Another thing that works is how the show moves to the personal life and struggles of Deep after he leaves the army and shows something which usually no show has shown yet.
The last 2 3 episodes are very good and thus help the show to end on a good note, unlike the first 4 which were very slow, predictable and drags.
After every episode there are a few minutes with real Deep Sengar and that is something that adds to the authenticity of the show.
Misses
Jeet ki Zid could have been a very good show but the lazy writing and treatment of the first few episodes really robs the show of its potential.
The sequences of the army operations were very amateurish and did not create the desired effects. The show picks up post mid season and is a story of what if.
Performances
Amit Sadh as mentioned earlier as well is the star of the show. He has worked hard for his physique, he has all the mannerisms of an army man and is equally believable as a wheelchair bound depressed man.
His passion is contagious and his frustration seems believable. He really has come a long way as an actor in the last couple of years.
Sushant singh as strict Col. Ranjit Chaudhary is excellent as well. Mrinal Kulkarni and Amrita Puri as Deep’s mother and wife are perfectly cast.
Rest of the cast including Paritosh Sand, Ali Gony are good in their limited roles.
FFC Take
Jeet ki Zid is the show which tries to provide something different from the trend and should be applauded for the effort.
The story of Major Deep Sengar is inspirational and deserves to be told on the big screen, given the potential of the story the show couldn’t do proper justice to it, but once you manage to invest and get past first 3 – 4 episodes then the later half of the show is a very good watch.
