Sajid Nadiadwala and Reliance Entertainment brings us reason to rejoice this festival season in form of “83” The famous Cricket world cup victory by Indian Cricket team in year 1983.
Most of our current generation has only heard about 1983 World cup win against all odd’s by then Indian cricket team lead by great Kapil dev but didn’t experience those matches. Kabir khan wins as a director in bringing those matches live on Screens where there remains almost no difference between Reel & Real.
The Plot
The movie starts with March 1983 when Indian cricket team is been selected for 1983 World Cup at England, and few of the team players are already playing county matches in England. Hence the team manager PR Man Singh (Pankaj Tripathi as usual in ease of role) goes to England with remaining team members. The rest of the movie is about the journey of Indian cricket team in their matches.
The Hits
This movie scores because there is less of Drama and more of on pitch action which is highlighted. There are no flashbacks to show struggle of cricketers and movie comes straight to the point from its 1st frame onwards. There is lot of dressing room tension and how team works on strategy on-field is highlighted brilliantly. All the actors in movie have acted so real that it becomes hard to believe if they are actor or real cricketers. Kudos to Ranveer Singh for again proving his talent by playing Kapil Dev by that ease on screen. Other actors too Jiiva as Srikaanth , Ammy Virk as Balwinder Sandhu,Saqeeb Salem as Mohinder Amarnath, Harrdy Sandhu and Boman Irani as Farokh Engineer stands out with their respective performance.
The background score is soothing and goes well with the mood of the movie. Specially song “Lehra Do”
The Misses
The movie doesn’t leave any specific impact being in 3D. Hence can be enjoyed in 2D. Also as we all are aware through reading or few highlights about the matches, hence for few the lack of drama may make movie appear predictable.
Standout Scenes:
There are many scenes which are beautifully picturized and outstanding performance and Canvas made them enjoyable on-screen. Just to mention few of them.
- Entire scene of Kapil Dev famous 175 against Zimbabwe (outstanding)
- Krish Srikanth’s response to the Journalist during the hosted party.
- The conversation between Kapil Dev and Romi Bhatia (Deepika Padukone) at airport.
- Whenever Viv Richards comes on crease the background score and the feel.
- And Of course, the final victory of India.
Final Verdict:
Overall “83” succeeds in bringing the famous victory on screen and the beautiful direction with amazing performances by its actors makes it delightful watch. The perfect festive entertainer.
