Bollywood actor and director Farhan Akhtar and his twin sister Zoya Akhtar will be celebrating their 38th birthdays today. Born on 9th January, 1974 to writer and ace lyrist Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani. After their parents divorce, Javed Akhtar remarried actress Shabana Azmi. Farhan Akhtar married hairstylist Adhuna Bhabani Akhtar. They have two daughters Shakya and Akira.
Farhan started his career by working as an apprentice with cinematographer-director, Manmohan Singh at 17, for films like “Lamhe”, before going on to assist director Pankaj Parashar in film “Himalayputra”, followed by working in a television production house for three years doing various odd jobs.
Farhan Akhtar is considered as one of the most brilliant and creative director, film producer, script writer, actor, lyricist, and has even done his fair share of playback singing. The list is endless for this multi talented actor. Farhan has created a niche for himself within a very small time span.
Farhan came in limelight and never looked back after his first directorial debut in Hindi cinema with the hit film, “Dil Chahta Hai” along with childhood friend Ritesh Sidhwani. The movie bagged the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
Akhtar then moved onto his next project, “Lakshya”. The movie was not a box office success but his direction and screenplay was appreciated by the critics. He then directed a remake of the 1978 Amitabh Bachchan film, “Don” titled “Don – The Chase Begins“. Again the movie was a huge success commercially.
In 2008, Akhtar made his acting debut in “Rock On”and even rendered his voice for the film’s songs. Not surprisingly, the songs became popular and his unique voice texture was admired by many. It was critically acclaimed as well as a Box office hit. The film did exceptionally well particularly in the metros. His film also gained him a National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
He also appeared as the male lead in his twin sister Zoya`s directorial debut, “Luck By Chance”. His recent film “Kartik Calling Kartik” opposite the leggy actress Deepika Padukone was not quite hit but Farhan’s acting was well received. His acting skills bought him another super hit film “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” under his home production. His last release a sequel to “Don”, “Don 2” starring Shah Rukh Khan & Priyanka Chopra in lead, was not as good as his previous film.
