Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao have gone Hollywood way of becoming proud parents to a baby boy through IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation), surrogacy on 1st December, 2011. This happens to be very rare in Indian society, but knowing Aamir Khan, he has always done things very ‘hatke’.
This news came as a shock as there was no news of Kiran’s pregnancy nor did she show any baby bump. Aamir Khan manage to keep this a secret all along as in 2009 Kiran (38) had suffered a miscarriage. She had uterine medical problems that necessitated a surrogacy.
The couple married in December 2005. This is Aamir’s (46) third child. He has a son Junaid, 19 and daughter Ira, 14 from his previous marriage to Reena Dutta.
The new parents sent out a personally signed letter to their friends and family with box of chocolates. The joyous letter read as:
“It gives us the greatest joy to share with you the good news of the birth of our baby boy. This baby is especially dear to us because he was born to us after a long wait and some difficulty. Due to medical complications, we were advised to have a baby through IVF – surrogacy and we feel very grateful to the Almighty that all has gone well. We are humbled by the greatness of God, the miracles of science, and the kindness and love of our families and friends in being there for us while respecting our privacy. We seek your good wishes and blessings for our child”.
Good wishes and blessings poured in from the film fraternity, family and friends.
The medical fraternity believes that Aamir’s letter will change the public perception about IVF. Dr Indira Hinduja, who is officially credited with India’s first test-tube baby born in KEM Hospital 25 years ago, said, “It’s nice of Aamir Khan to talk about it. He is a top star and people may now no longer mind undergoing a surrogacy treatment and talking about it.”
