This much awaited movie to be released this week has been reported by the press to be the return of an old world “pure romance”. Pankaj Kapoor, the talented actor from the yesteryears and a contemporary of Naseeruddin Shah and Om Puri, makes his debut as a director with Mausam. It stars his son Shahid Kapoor and the lovely Sonam Kapoor.
This bollywood movie is a romance between an Air Force Officer, Lt. Harinder Singh or Harry, as he is known as, and the lovely Ayaat Khan, a Kashmiri girl. The movie spans over a decade. It is an innocent love story, where shy glances are exchanged between the hero and the heroine. A pure love story, it has been said to be a movie that will be remembered for a long time and is expected to be romance of the year.
Harry is an Air Force pilot, who falls in love with a Kashmiri girl. They are separated by war and are reunited during the Gujarat riots. This period movie, as the protagonists reveal, has been a time of transition from being modern to depicting a bygone era.
Shahid Kapoor, who looks authoritative and seems convincing as an IAF pilot, sports a uniform and a moustache. It is expected to
be better than all his previous performances be it Jab we Met or Vivaah. Sonam, on the other hand looks lovely with her period hairstyles and dresses. The promos show her as a shy damsel stealing glances at her beau. Both Sonam and Shahid have gone out of their comfort zone to play different people.
The film has been shot in Switzerland, Nepal, Agra, Gwalior. The surprising fact is that some parts of Scotland that have been re-created and shot at ND Studios, appear very real.
If you are wondering why the film has been named Mausam, or if it bears any resemblance to the old Mausam, then rest assured that this Mausam is very different. It shows Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor in extremely different avatars. The changes in their characters have been compared to the four seasons.
Good Review on Mausam Bollywood Hindi Movies.
