This independence Dharma productions and Netflix original brings us The Kargil girl , a biopic of Gunjan Saxena who is the first IAF lady pilot and played a major role with rescue operations during Kargil. The film showcase on her individual struggle and difficulties she goes through being a first lady officer in Indian Airforce. The film has perfect supporting cast in form of Pankaj Tripathi, Vineet Singh & Angad Bedi along with Jahnvi Kapoor as Gunjan Saxena.
The Story Line
The story begins from Lucknow of 1984 when Gunjan decided to become Pilot after meeting pilots and interacted with them in cockpit (don’t ask for its feasibility cinematic liberty). Gunjan Saxena’s support during this entire dream is her father Colonel Anup Singh ( Pankaj Tripathi) who motivates her and don’t let her loose till she succeed to become finest IAF pilots and posted at Kargil base camp where she performs her Rescue Operations.

The calmness in act of Pankaj Tripathi, this time he again hits bullseye with tailor made role and showcase beautiful daughter-father relationship on screen,
The technicalities and detailing during flight lessons are top notch, brilliant act by Chandan saxena .
The background score of movie is good with 2 standout songs “Bharat ki Beti” by Arijit Singh and “ Dori Tutt Gaiyaan” by Rekha Bhardwaj.
Negative
In current era of biopic it’s very important for filmmakers to not only do justice with struggle of its central character, but also with profession involved, specially if you are projecting something as dignified as Indian Air force. The movie highlights IAF as sexist, to support Janhvi struggle as officer of 1st woman batch, which actually lead audience to see men in uniform as biased with women officers.
Janhvi Kapoor, fails to do justice with the role which leads to reduce impact of power pack scenes.

Our Take
The movie succeeds in showing the beautiful relationship between father and daughter and at the same time highlight the technicalities involved during training of air force pilots ,But at the same time it falls flat on showcasing the prestige that IAF has in India with regards to gender equality ,which makes this movie a missed opportunity. The movie is Universal certified and doesn’t have any obscene or foul language in use, can be watched with family.
