Disney Hot star brings us Khuda Haafiz , the story of husband in search of his wife. The surprise here is Vidyut Jammwal (our Commando) is in lead, but instead of flexing muscles and jumping from window, he act a common person. The movie also remind us of Hollywood action Classic Taken (2008).
The Story line
Movie is set in Lucknow (Bollywood’s favorite) in the year 2008 (not able to understand the relevance) where Sameer (Vidyut) & Nargis (Shivaleeka Oberoi “Yeh Saali Aashiqui” fame) are “just married” happy working couple in IT. Their happy times stays no longer, as global recession hit India and they lost their respective jobs. They pay to an agent (Vipin Sharma) to find the job in Noman (fictional gulf country) where many of local citizens know hindi with good proficiency level, and share a very good political relations with India.
Nargis get her offer first, so she need to travel alone, leaving Sameer behind. As soon as she reaches airport of Noman, she gets kidnapped, which she informs Sameer through phone call (don’t ask how she managed) ,and with that clue Sameer lands in Noman where he finds help in form of a friendly Taxi Driver Usman Hamid (Anu Kapoor another fine performance),Indian Embassy & security agents Faiz (Shiv Pandit) and Tamena (Aahana Kumra).
The Hits
Vidyut Jammwal trying his hands with acting and manage to give average performance in this never search operation.
Evergreen Anu Kapoor
The beautiful locations of Uzbekistan.
The raw action sequence picturized at places considering Vidyut role not as a trained fighter but a aam aadmi.
The Misses
The screenplay appears to be quiet lethargic due to which even in 2 hours 15 min you cannot get full engrossed.
Unnecessary songs at times, which reduces the pace of movie.
A thriller minus thrill this is the biggest drawback of the movie, when you do not get thrilled while watching a search movie.
Standout Scenes
The raw fight sequence when Sameer able to find Nargis and fight out the gang as an untrained person with knife.
Our Take
Overall Khuda Haafiz is a good attempt by Vidyut to show his skills other than action. But at the same time due to same old story ,poor narrative and predictive climax, movie not able to hold its audience for 2+ hours. Only delight to watch is some great locations and act of Anu Kapoor as friendly Pathan.
Avoidable
