Red Chillies & Eros Entertainment’s ALWAYS KABHI KABHI which released on 17th June 2011 didn’t do well as expected. Produced by Gauri Khan and directed by Roshan Abbas. ALWAYS KABHI KABHI is dull in the first half while the second half explodes into a flashy climax that ruins everything.
The storyline yarns around four final year high school teenagers Sameer aka Sam (Ali Fazal), Tariq Naqvi (Satyajeet Dubey) and Nandini alias Nandy (Zoa Morani), and Aishwarya (Giselli Monteiro) studying in the fancy St. Mark’s convent.
Each of them has their own aspirations in life but unfortunately their parents want them to follow what they have planned for them.
The school topper Tariq’s father wants his son to get admission in MIT while Aishwarya’s mom forces her to miss school and get into the glam world.
The other teenager Nandy is a school brat and everyone envies her as she lives life on her own terms and craves for her parent’s attention, while Sam’s strict father never listens to him and doesn’t get along with him.
Incidentally, their relationships get strained and Sam eventually gets himself caught in a drug scandal and the cops demand bribe. To pay the police officers money, Sam wants to win the school drama competition.
In the end, these four perform a play to make their parents understand that they shouldn’t be pressurized by addressing their own problems.
The background music that momentarily streaks in between is not a plus but jarringly irritating, and also SRK’s promotional video in the end turns out to be a complete shamble after the boring climax.
The film’s USP is the performances of Zoa Morani, Fazal, and Satyajeet, while Giselli Monteiro’s acting is shoddy and doesn’t radiate strength. ALWAYS KABHI KABHI also has a strong supporting cast of Satish Shah, Lilette Dubey, and Navneet Nishan.
Well the verdict goes… ALWAYS KABHI KABHI will not get love of the audience.
