As a child we were told ‘Better to fail, then to copy’. So do the producers & directors of Bollywood feel the same? Is Bollywood running out of fresh ideas? This question runs in everyone’s mind.
Lately all we have been getting is remakes and sequels. Sequels were always successful in Hollywood and now Bollywood is aping the same. Some sequels are made of new ideas but, some are simply out of idea. When a movie becomes successful the directors feel it will create the same magic by making a sequel. In fact remake of a film is actually safe for a successful film.
It has been observed that nowadays sequel to the movies is planned even before the prequels become hit on the big screen. Though remake of movies from other language were a common and remixing of old classic songs were popular in the film industry, but remaking movies of the same language of the yesteryear classic is now seems to be the new agenda. Not to forget same classic songs are being remixed, rather remade.
Some of the names of remake for 2012 for which our ‘janta’ is impatiently waiting to release are, ‘Agneepath’, ‘Satte Pe Satta’, ‘Chashme Buddoor’, ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’, ‘Angoor’, ‘Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam’, ‘Mujhe Jeene Do’, ‘Baiju Bawra’, ‘Amar Prem’ and last but not the least ‘Chupke Chupke’. Lets hope these movies match the success of there counter parts, as in past we have come across some disaster remake like ‘Karz’, ‘Sholey’, ‘Umrao Jaan’ etc.
The interesting fact is that audience really liked and appreciate the trend of sequel and remakes. Some times the sequels don’t do good work at box office. For example, ‘Raaz’ which was very amazing but the sequel ‘Raaz – the Mystery Continue’ was hated by the audience. Another example is ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ and its second part ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’ both parts were loved by audience. ‘Hera Pheri’ and ‘Phir Hera Pheri’ both parts were appreciated by the audience and sequel became hit as the audience liked it very much.
Some of the sequels lined up for 2012 are Dostana 2’, ‘Rock on 2’. We also have ‘Race 2’, ‘Hera Pheri 3’, ‘Dhoom’ which already has a sequel, is gearing up for the part 3. ‘Wanted-2’, ‘Dabangg-2’, ‘No Entry-2’, ‘Race-2’ and ‘Partner-2’. Phew!! It seems like 2012 is going to be a year full of sequels and this endless trend will remain in bollywood coz, there might be a remake of remake in future. This trend is increasing the curiosity among audience which will result in higher box-office collections.
