Bollywood made a fantastic business in the year 2011. The revenue from entertainment industry was around Rs. 2,590 crore last year. The box office collection, television and music copyrights accounted for such a whooping figure.
This year let’s see who will win the game at box office.
Karan Johar’s ‘Agneepath’ is one of the most awaited Bollywood movie of 2012. Karan revisits the Amitabh Bachchan starring 1990 blockbuster, ‘Agneepath’. The promo of the film is already on air. The movie is set to hit the silver screen on 26th Jan i.e. on Republic Day. The movie features Hrithik Roshan as Vijay Deenanath Chauhan. Priyanka Chopra plays the lady lead role. The villain character (Kancha Cheena) will be played by Sanjay Dutt. The movie also stars Rishi Kapoor. Katrina Kaif’s item song Chikni chamel is number 1 on chartbuster.
Last year was the year of Salman Khan. With two back to back blockbusters he became the number 1 star of Bollywood. The film that ranks second in the most anticipated films of the year is Salman Khan’s ‘Ek Tha Tiger’. The film is directed by Kabir Khan and will release under the banner of Yash Raj Films. In this Yash Raj Film, once again the fans will get to see the on-screen chemistry between Salman and Katrina. It’s almost five years since the two had been paired opposite each other. ‘Ek Tha Tige’r is expected to release on the auspicious occasion of Eid as always. Bodyguard and Dabangg also released on Eid and generated huge figures at the box office. The news of making of Dabangg 2 is on air and counts to take on the number three position.
Aamir Khan’s ‘Talaash’ is also one of the most anticipated films of the year 2012. This film stands at number three position on the watch list. Aamir Khan will be playing the character of a cop in the movie. He has Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji as co-stars in this supernatural thriller. This is Reena Kagti’s second movie as a director. She made her directorial debut with Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd. The film failed to make a mark at the box office. Produced by Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Siddhwani and Aamir Khan. The film is expected to release on 1st June 2012.
On the fourth position is Saif Ali Khan’s ambitious espionage thriller ‘Agent Vinod’ which has been in the making forever. It featured in our last year’s most-awaited list too. The delay, thankfully, hasn’t diminished our interest in seeing what director Sriram Raghavan has in store. Raghavan’s deft filmmaking skills combined with Saif’s suave persona and girlfriend Kareena Kapoor’s currently numero uno status lends ‘Agent Vinod’ a picture-perfect appeal on paper. Most awaited movie of Saif Ali Khan finally set for March 23, 2012 release.
After Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s exit thanks to her pregnancy, Madhur Bhandarkar’s impatiently awaited movie ‘Heroine’ is on fifth position. After Chandni Bar (Tabu), Satta (Raveena Tandon), Page 3(Konkona Sen Sharma), Corporate (Bipasha Basu) and Fashion (Priyanka Chopra), director Madhur Bhandarkar is all set to explore the highs and lows in the life of an actress with Kareena Kapoor in and as ‘Heroine’. Most of Madhur Bhandarkar’s actresses have bagged awards for his films. Let’s see what it does for Kareena Kapoor, will it bring her a National Award as well.
Looks like 2012 is the year of Khans. But Shah Rukh Khan after Ra.One and Don 2, which didn’t impress at the box office, is hoping for a hit this year. Same goes with Akshay Kumar. Looks like Kareena Kapoor will still be on top, as too many releases for this year. Many more awaited movies lined up for 2012. Let’s see which one makes to the top. Hope this year Bollywood makes huge money and breaks all the previous box office records.
