Over the past couple of years, the way OTT penetration has increased in India has been nothing less than spectacular. And with the lockdown coming this has further been strengthened. With the amount of content and the capacity of consumption for every content, going forward also OTTs look a promising story.
With the cinemas reopening a lot of movies will now be looking forward to a theatrical release, but still there is going to be a lot of content (Movies or web series) which is going to be coming soon on various OTT platforms.
Further to our list of movies awaited this year, this list explores the content we are looking up to this November
- Meenakshi Sundareshwar –
Starring Abhimanyu Dassani and Sanya Malhotra, Meenakshi Sundareshwar is the latest Netflix Original which started streaming on Nov 5th. Directed by Vivek Soni, the movie is the story of a newly-wed couple who are forced to live apart due to their husband’s job assignment.
The movie depicts the struggles, challenges and hiccups which these newlyweds face while trying to cope up with the long distance relationship. The movie garnered average reviews and turned out to be a damp squib because of slow pace and treatment..
2. Akkad Bakkad Rafu Chakkar –
Akkad Bakkad Rafu Chakkar is a story of a group of people coming together to open a fake bank. The webseries deals with how they open the bank and how then they manage to scam the people of whopping amounts of money.
Streaming now on Amazon Prime, the show without many known faces, has received decent to good reviews and this 10 episode drama looks promising and worth a watch.
3. Tryst with Destiny –
Sony Liv has been coming up with exceptional content and with the series like Tryst with Destiny they seem to have added another feather to the cap. Directed by Prashant Nair, this 4 episode series with 4 different stories deals with the stigma of racism, caste oppression and corruption.
Released on 5th Nov, Tryst with Destiny boasts of excellent performers in Jaideep Ahlawat, Ashish Vidyarthi, Vineet Kumar and Amit Sial which in itself is a reason for giving this drama a watch.
4. Special Ops 1.5 – The Himmat Story–
The Second season of much acclaimed Special Ops is planned to release on 12th Nov on Disney Hotstar. Going by the promos, the new Season gets into the times before the first one and explores the past of RAW officer Himmat Singh (Kay Kay Menon).
With an impressive add-ons to the cast, the trailer gives us glimpses of young Kay Kay, Vinay Pathak, Aftab Shivdasani who are the welcome additions to the cast. We hope Special Ops 1.5 lives up to the acclaim that Neeraj Pandey’s season one garnered.
5. Squad –
This Zee 5 original movie marks the debut of Rinzing Denzongpa, son of veteran Bollywood actor Danny Denzongpa.
The glimpses in the trailer suggest this one to be an action packed commando drama, where Rinzing plays an army commando, who is on a mission to rescue a child, which seems to be a matter of national security.
Movie though high on action and Rinzing looking another fine prospect as an action star after Tiger Shroff, looks dated and weak on VFX. Squad, directed by Nilesh Sahay releases on Zee 5 on Nov 12th.
6. Dhamaka –
Another Netflix Original, all set to release on 19 Nov has Kaartik Aaryan and Mrunal Thakur in the lead. Kaartik plays a TV anchor who gets a call after he interviews a terrorist where the caller blows up a bridge.
The film portrays Arjun’s race against time where he tries his best to negotiate with the caller to save the city with his journalist wife stuck in midst of all this chaos as well.
Directed by brilliant Ram Madhvani, Dhamaka has already generated some curiosity and hope this lives up to the expectations.
7. The Whistleblower –
Another promising Sony Liv Original, with released dates not yet announced, seems to be inspired by the infamous Vyapam Scam. The teaser takes us through the gruesome details of corruption, 1700+ arrests, 50+ unnatural deaths which came into limelight in the state of Madhya Pradesh a few years back.
Directed by Manoj Pillai, The Whistleblower stars Ritwick Bhaumick, Ravi Kishan, Sonali Kulkarni, Sachin Khedekar in major roles and by teaser looks like Sony Liv has another winner on their hands.
